THE TURRET GUNNER

Playing as a turret gunner in the bomber or in a capital ship is an excellent way for a new Allegiance player to learn the game.

As a turret gunner, you'll man a virtual turret that has a 360-degree field of fire. Your job is to protect your ship by driving off or, more effectively, shooting down the enemy fighters trying to destroy your craft. Note that when an enemy goes down, the gunner who made the final hit receives credit for that kill.

Turrets have a finite amount of ammo, so target accordingly -- don't waste it on a fleeing crippled enemy or on probes, pods, outposts, and utility craft unless explicitly ordered to do so by your pilot and/or wing commander. Also be aware that firing turrets increases your ship's signature, making it more visible to the enemy.

If you are disconnected from your pilot, it can take up to 2 minutes before the server recognizes the disconnection. During this time, the pilot will be unable to fly the ship; the gunners will be able to fire but will be unable to successfully destroy any targets. If the ship is destroyed during this time, all turret gunners and the pilot will take a death. Upon confirmation of the disconnection, all turret gunners and the pilot are ejected and the ship self-destructs.

If a pilot quits the game, the first turrent will be promoted to pilot.

When a pilot docks at a station, the turret gunners remain on board unless they remove themselves from the ship.
